I am a certified hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner; I use my skills to help people resolve their particular issues. I continue to develop and expand my skills through courses, workshops, and self-study.

I was born and grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, where I attended Nelson Elementary School and Paseo High . I later received my BA from Harvard College, majoring in mathematics and graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. I attended the University of California, Berkeley with an National Science Foundation Fellowship, where I received MA and Ph.D. degrees.
I served as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of North Carolina for six years, publishing a number of research papers in mathematical journals and also teaching. Realizing I did not enjoy academic life, I found my way into my second career as a software developer, working over the course of 28 years in North Carolina and the Washington, DC area.
In late 2007 I stumbled upon Wendi Friesen's site. I purchased and downloaded an introductory recording. Wendi takes you into a trance and then says, "Whenever you see the color red, you will _________," and you fill in the blank. I did not have any bad habits, really, but I had been cracking my knuckles since the age of 10 and had never been able to quit. So I told myself, "Whenever I see the color red, I will feel a warm, healing glow in my fingers and have no need to crack them." That was it! -- I have not cracked my knuckles since. Impressed, I began to explore Wendi's site more and other hypnosis sites on the web.
A few months later, I decided I would like to learn "the other side of the watch", and after some searching, found a teacher (Laura West) and enrolled in a hypnosis class -- a hypnotherapy class, actually. I finished the class in June of 2007 and received my certification from the IMDHA (International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association). A couple months later I started Hypnosis Silver Spring and began building my practice.
Since that time I have received training in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Allergy Elimination, Insomnia, and Pain Control.
I continue to learn and grow, gaining new understandings and skills. I love what I do!
