My introduction to Quantum Focusing (“QF” for short) was during a course on Pain Control with Michael Ellner, a prominent medical hypnotist and one of the originators of QF.QF is a somewhat different approach from standard hypnotherapy, in that it is even more “client centered”: the practitioner does not diagnose, analyze, or “fix” people, but rather acts as a coach to help clients develop their own hypnotic, meditative imagery and creative coping skills and abilities.
Quantum Focusing is a highly effective blending of hypnotic healing, meditation, spiritual practice, and creative stress management, a Mental Martial Art.It has developed over more than 20 years from the experiences and practices of hypnotherapists Michael Ellner, Richard Jamison, and Alan Barsky, as a powerful way to help people feel better, get more out of life, resolve their problems, and achieve their goals.

I have used QF in working with several individuals diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and/or Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) – the two often occur together.Both of these are “diagnoses by exclusion” – the individual is experiencing deep muscle pain, numbness, jaw and head pain, fatigue, sleep disorders, and/or chronic headaches (Fibromyalgia) or nausea, abdominal cramps, constipation, bloating, and/or diarrhea (IBS), but the doctors can find nothing that could be causing these symptoms.Yet what the person is experiencing is very real and interferes in major ways with daily activities and with leading a happy, healthy, normal life.The clients I have worked with have all experienced significant improvement in their symptoms and as a consequence, in their lives.
We start with the QF Basic Exercise: putting the attention to “occupying all the space inside the body” and then repeating the “mantra” “I live with a happy heart, a peaceful mind, and a playful spirit” over and over in the mind.(I have also been teaching this to many of my recent clients, so it may sound familiar.)
Finding the Zone
The Basic Exercise is really a combination of meditation and self-hypnosis; you can use it to embed imagery in the mind, such as a Power Image of yourself, to give yourself beneficial suggestions for change, or to rehearse physical and/or mental activities.It can also serve as a gateway into deeper hypnotic states, for hypnotherapy or self-improvement.
QF is rich in exercises and procedures such as “Emotional Detox”, “Forgiveness”, “Hand Warming”, “Floating Away Pain”, “The Magic Smile”, “Anti-Anxiety”, and many, many others.
A client can choose to: ·buy the client workbook and work through it by himself;
·buy the workbook for half-price and work with me as her QF Coach for one or two sessions, then continue on her own; or ·work with me as her QF Coach for up to 10 sessions (the workbook is included).
