Donald Pelles Bio
Donald Pelles is a native of Kansas City, Missouri, where he attended William Rockhill Nelson Elementary School and Paseo High School. He later received his BA from Harvard College, majoring in mathematics and graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He attended the University of California, Berkeley with an National Science Foundation Fellowship where he was awarded received MA and Ph.D. degrees.
Mr. Pelles served as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of North Carolina for six years, publishing a number of research papers in mathematical journals and also teaching. Realizing he did not enjoy academic life, he found his way into a second career as a software developer, working over the course of 28 years in North Carolina and the Washington, DC area.
In late 2007 Mr. Pelles stumbled upon Wendi Friesen's website and purchased and downloaded an introductory recording. In this recording, Wendi takes you into a trance and then says, "Whenever you see the color red, you will _________," leaving the listener to fill in the blank. Mr. Pelles could think of only one bad habit, cracking his knuckles (since the age of 10). He told himself, "Whenever I see the color red, I will feel a warm, healing glow in my fingers and have no need to crack them." He has not cracked my knuckles since. Impressed, he began to explore Wendi's site more and other hypnosis sites on the web.
A few months later, he decided to learn hypnosis from "the other side of the watch", and after some searching, found a teacher (Laura West) and enrolled in a hypnotherapy class. He finished the class in June of 2007 and received hiscertification from the IMDHA (International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association). Two months later he started Hypnosis Silver Spring and began building his practice.
Since that time Mr. Pelles has received training in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Allergy Elimination, Insomnia, and Pain Control.
Mr. Pelles married Rosalyn Woodward Bailey in 1977. The couple have three sons: Hugh Bailey of Gaithersburg, MD, Tamba-Kuii Bailey of Grand Forks, ND, and Malcolm Pelles of Washington, DC. He has written a novel and is currently working on a play. He is active in the community, especially around educational issues, and is an avid tennis player.
